Professor Douglas (DJ) McCready currently lives in Richmond Hill, ON, Canada. He was born and raised in Ottawa and the Windsor areas of Ontario. His undergraduate degree is in Economics and Political Science from the University of Windsor and he has a MSc (Econ) degree from London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London. His education finished with a doctorate from the University of Alberta.
Dr. McCready held a tenured position at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo in the economics department from 1969 to 2009 when he retired from full-time classroom teaching as Professor Emeritus. Since retirement he has continued to teach on a contract basis so that in total he has not taught for 52 years. On one sabbatical in St. Louis, MO., he was associated with Washington University.
Dr. McCready’s research interests have included policy issues mostly in the areas of “public finance” and “health care” and have included research in Nairobi and Kigali. He has a long list of publications, including several books. He was also VP of the Canadian Health Economics Research Association for a number of years.. He has served on the editorial boards of several academic journals and on the international executive of the International Institute of Public Finance. Dr. McCready has also served on a number of volunteer Boards including the National Executive of a Political Party, Church Council, health-related community organizations and chaired an Asian Friends social club.
